Okumura Ryochiku was a physician. He was renowned as a great physician and advocated use of emetics as a therapy for many diseases. He never wrote anything on that therapy but it was practiced by his disciples including Dokushiian Nagatomi, Toyo Yamawaki and Sampaku Emi.
Okumura Ryochiku was born in 1686.
Okumura Ryochiku studied medicine under Ryohaku Yamazaki, Lived in Osaka for eight years, returned to his home town and succeeded Ryohaku.
Although the lord of Fuchu wanted to make him a retainer, he declined. Later, however, he consented to accompanying the lord's daughter to Kyoto, where he became acquainted with TogaiIto, Temmin Namikawa and Konzan Goto,noted scholars.
