After graduating began publishing a political and literary magazine titled Rakuten (Happy Heaven). From 1914 to 1924 he migrated to Formosa, from where he went to Singapore to stay there as a planter of rubber trees. During his stay in Singapore, he laid the foundation for future Japanese planters.
