Born in Mexico City, Sánchez Cordero studied law at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México). She was appointed Minister (Associate Justice) of the Supreme Court by the Senate on January 26, 1995. Sánchez Cordero was the first female notary public in Mexico City.
She is the ninth woman to hold a seat on the Supreme Court.
