In 1888 Mr. Dennis moved to Tacoma, Wash., and during the next few years served as architect of several note-worthy buildings including the Puget Sound University, Merchants National Bank, and under the firm name of Proctor & Dennis, the Pierce County Court House, built between 1890 and 1893.
In the latter phase of his career in Los Angeles associated with the late Lyman Farwell his works included several schools, hotels and other public buildings, of which the most important were: The Fay Office Building: Columbia Trust Company; original building of the Fifth Street Store (now Millirons); Salvation Army Home built at Fourth and Main Streets in i907; Hall at the University of Southern California; Los Angeles High School, and the Hollywood Hotel. Mr. Dennis also designed a number of private homes in the Los Angeles area.
