He moved to St. Louis in 1837 and carried on architectural work there for more than forty years. Many early churches in the city were built from his plans including the Centenary Methodist South at Broadway and Pine Street; The Second Baptist, Sixth and Locust Streets, 1846; First Presbyterian, 14th and Locust, completed in 1855, later abandoned; and the Walnut Street Presbyterian, built in 1864. Retiring from practice in later years Mr. Hart engaged in Railroad business, became a Director of the Missouri Pacific and acquired a pretentious home on Lucas Place. He was reputed to have left a large fortune at the time of his decease.
