Career
A Scotland international representative forward, he has played for Sheffield Eagles, Huddersfield, Keighley, Leigh, Whitehaven, Wigan, Widnes, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats where he played all games but one due to a training injury, and Harlequins. Wilkes was a consistent feature within the 2009 Wakefield Trinity Wildcats squad and they managed to secure a fifth-place finish within the Engage Super League reaching the play-offs. During the 2014 season Oliver captained the Leigh Centurions to the league leaders shield and the championship grand final victory.
At the end of the 2015 season he annouced he was leaving Leigh Centurions to return home and sign for his hometown club Barrow Raiders
During 2006 he played with Widnes in the 2006 Grand Final.
After the season he required reconstructive shoulder surgery. In 2007 he scored 15 tries in 34 games with Widnes.
He was named to the Scotland training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup and was named to the full Scotland squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.
