Omi-no-Kenu was born in Japan.
Omi-no-Kenu was born in Japan.
In the reign of Emperor Keitai, he led an expedition against Shiragi (527), a county in Korea, at the command of the Emperor. His mission was to win back the territory of Mimana which Shiragi had taken. He could not accomplish it because of the mutiny of Iwai, Governor of Tsukushi (northern Kyushu). He then went to Mimana and tried to arrange a compromise between Shiragi and Mimana, but failed in this attempt and Mimana also rebelled against Japan. Shiragi, with the assistance of China, attempted to destroy Kenu's forces. Kenu was called back by the Emperor to Japan and died on Tsushima Island en route home.
