Omori Ichu was born in 1844. He was eldest son of Doken Omori, a retainer of Matsukawa Clan.

Omori Ichu served in the Home Ministry and was sent by the government to an exhibition in Philadelphia (1875). He was subsequently a judge at many exhibitions. Attached to various prefectural offices, he contributed much to the development of industrial arts in many parts of Japan. A versatile scholar, he wrote many books not only on industrial arts but other subjects including natural history. Also wrote a few plays. He was responsible for the epitaph of the memorial for Philipp Franz Siebold, German physician, in Nagasaki.
