Omura Sumihiro was a Daimyo. Lord of the Omura Clan (Nagasaki Prefecture). Endeavored to strengthen coastal defense and promoted the cause of the Meiji Restoration (1868). In 1868, he distinguished himself in the Imperial cam paigns against pro-Shogunate elements in northern Japan.
