Mitchum attended Washington Archibald High School and spent his early career in his native Saint Kitts and Nevis, playing for Newtown United.

In 2011 Mitchum transferred to the new Antigua Barracuda Football Club team prior to its first season in the USL Professional Division. He made his debut for the Barracudas on April 17, 2011 in the team"s first competitive game, a 2–1 loss to the Los Angeles Blues. Mitchum made his international debut for Saint Kitts and Nevis in 2004.
