He graduated from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, - a state university in Manila City - with a double degree in commerce and law.
He previously was a Philippine judge. He is a qualified lawyer, having been admitted to the Philippine Bar on March 9, 1971. He later earned a master"s degree at the Asian Institute of Management - one of the top graduate schools of business and public affairs in Asia.
Barrientos is a well-respected businessman, professor, and lawyer, with vast experience in corporate law, financial management, and managerial accounting.
He was a former judge of Manila City"s Regional Trial Court (Branch 26) in 2003 as well as a former judge of Malolos City"s Regional Trial Court (Branch 82) in 2006. Barrientos retired from being a judge and also took a leave from teaching in late 2012.
