AIRY, Osmund was born on October 29, 1845 in Royal Observatory, Greenwich. Youngest son of late Sir G. B. Airy, Knight Commander of the Bath, Astronomer-Royal, and Richarda Smith, daughter of Reverend C. Smith, Edensor, Derbyshire.

Studied at Blackheath Proprietary School. Trinity College Cambridge. 27th Wrangler, 1868.

Master of Arts.
Career
He briefly served as an assistant at Blackheath before he joined the staff at Wellington where he stayed until 1876, when he was appointed as an Inspector of Schools. In 1904 he became a divisional inspector, retiring in 1910. He edited Gilbert Burnet"s History of His Own Time covering the reign of Charles II in two volumes.
