1907 graduate Kiev Medical Orderlies’ School. Studied at but did not graduate Kiev University.
1907-1917 worked as medical orderly. 1919 first work printed. Late 1920's and early 1930's worked for newspapers “Visti” and “Selyanska pravda” and for various satirical journals.
A master of the short pamphlet, satirical feuillcton and humoresques. Drew extensively on Ukraine folk humor and folk speech. Early 1930's attacked by Party critics for his ironic attitude to Soviet Life, especially the system of so-called writers brigades formed for the “lit servicing” of kolkhozes, construction projects, et cetera
1933 arrested by State Security organs and exiled for ten years to Solovki, then to a concentration camp in the Far North. 1943 released from imprisonment but remained in the North until 1945, working for an Arkhangel’sk newspaper. After 1945 wrote a great deal about Ukraine “bourgeois nationalists” and Ukraine political emigres.
