He was awarded the, which was awarded to recognize extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership by Nazi Germany during World World War World War II Obersturmführer Otto Kirchner was awarded the Knight"s Cross on the 21 April 1944, when with the Headquarters Squadron, 16th Steamship Cavalry Regiment, 8th Steamship Cavalry Division Florian Geyer. He did not survive the war but was killed in the closing days on the 3 May 1945.
