From 1907 worked at plants in Tallin. 1913 moved to Narva and worked for newspaper “Kiyr”. Exiled to Yekaterinoslav, then to Khar’kov.
1915 exiled to Tsaritsyn. After 1917 February Revol member, 1st Executive Committee, Tsaritsyn Soviet. May 1917 returned to Tallin and helped prepare October Revol in Established
Late 1918— early 1919 member, Estland Workers’Commune. 1920-1924 underground Party work in Established 1920-1938 member, Central Committee, Communist Party Established
From 1925 in Moscow; secretary, Est Section, Central Committee, Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks). From 1929 secretary, Est Section, Communist International. From 1936 exec ed, Est newspaper “Edasi” in Leningrad.
Wrote numerous works and articles on history of Est workers’ movement. 1938 arrested by State Security organs.
