He graduated from Memorial University of Newfoundland with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, from the University of Alberta with a Masters in Education and from the University of Toronto with Doctor of Education served as a Salvation Army officer/teacher and school principal in many communities in the his native province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Tucker was also school principal and area administrator for the Mackenzie District of Northern Canada. Tucker has also played on stage plays and television specials as Grandpa Walcott, a lovable character of Ted Russell"s classics: The Holdin" Ground and Grand Pa"s New Industry. He died on October 6, 2015 at the age of 92.
He was a recipient of the Order of Canada for his work in heritage affairs and the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador for his efforts that have made significant contributions to both the educational and cultural sectors of the province. As co-founder of the Wessex Society of Newfoundland he is very active in the promotion of historical ties of Newfoundland to the west country of England. Tucker has also received the Canada 125 medal, the heritage award of the Newfoundland and Labrador Historical Society, the Silver Cross of Saint George, and an honorary doctor of laws from Memorial University.
