Graduated from Economics Department of Tokyo University (1913).
He entered Finance Ministry. Made official tour of United States (1916). He became instructor (1918), assistant professor (1919) and then professor (1923) of Tokyo University.
Arrested with Hiromi Arisawa, Yoshitaro Wakimura and others in the socalled "Professors' Group Case" (1938) and resigned (1944).
Returned after the war to Economics Department of Tokyo University (1945) and retired under age limit (1949). Received title of emeritus professor of Tokyo University and was appointed president of Hosei University.
