Biddle, the son of clockmaker Owen Biddle, Senior, is best known for his influential handbook, The Young Carpenter"s Assistant, published in 1805.
In 1833, the book was revised and expanded by Philadelphia architect John Haviland, who re-published it as An Improved and Enlarged Edition of Biddle"s Young Carpenter"s Assistant. Biddle was elected to the Carpenters" Company of the City and County of Philadelphia in 1800. He is also notable as the designer in 1803 of the Architecture Street Friends Meeting House, which is still in use today.
