Owl Goingback is an American lecturer, former restaurant owner, and author of horror and children's books, a fiction ghostwriter, and a writer of non-fiction.


Owl Goingback was born on May 1, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Son of Quiet Starr.


He attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.


He served as a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force, attained the rank of sergeant. Then he owned the Jim's Place Restaurant, Warner Robins, Georgia from 1981 until 1986. Since 1986 he has been a freelance writer, Winter Park, Florida. He has written numerous novels, children's books, short stories, and magazine articles. He has also ghostwritten novels for celebrities.


  • He was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Short story (1996) for "Grass Dancer", Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel (1997) for "Crota", Bram Stoker Award for Best Novel (2000) for "Darker Than Night". He won the Bram Stoker Award for First Novel (1997) for "Crota".


He is a member of Horror Writers Association, Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers American.
