P. Henry Woodward

Woodward, P. Henry was born on March 19, 1833 in Franklin, Connecticut, United States. Son of Ashbel (distinguished physical and antiquarian) and Emmeline (Bicknell) W.

Education

Graduate Yale, 1855; (honorary Master of Arts, Trinity, 1896).

Career

Editor Hartford Courant, 1862-1865. Special agent Physician organization Department, 1865-1876, chief special agent, 1874-1876. Reorganizing mail service in Georgia and later had charge Railway Mail Service from Ohio River to Gulf, 1865-1869.

Had charge preparation of evidence for the government in “Star Route” cases, 1881-1885.

Resident of Hartford. since 1885. Became secretary Board of Trade, Hartford, on its organization.

Now president Dime Savings Bank. Vice president Connecticut General Life Insurance Company Secretary board of trustees Trinity College Author: Guarding the Mails, 1876 (later edition entitled “Secret Service of the Post Office Department”).
