Kao, Pai Chih was born on June 20, 1934 in Nanking, China. Son of Gung and Chuu Hui (Chang) Kao. came to the United States, 1965, naturalized, 1976.

Instructor department social medicine, National Defense Medical Center, Taipei, Taiwan, 1958-1965; postdoctoral investigator, Oak Ridge (Tennessee) National Laboratory, 1971-1973; head department new methods development and radioimmunoassay, CBL Laboratory, Columbus, Ohio., 1973-1975; consultant, professor clinical chemistry, department laboratory medicine and pathology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, since 1975. Consultant clinical chemistry section, clinical chemistry and hematology devices panel Food and Drug Administration.
