He was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina. Williams received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he played for the North Carolina Tar Heels football team from 2009 to 2012.
As a senior in 2012, he received honorable mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference (Administrative Committee on Company-ordination) honors.
