In 1987 he entered University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and got his bachelor"s degree and master"s degree there. He is mainly known for his work in the field of quantum entanglement. His team demonstrated five-photon entanglement in 2004.
In April 2014, he was appointed as the vice-president of USTC.
