When Patricia Giggans opened the Karate Women School in Los Angeles in 1978, she knew karate was not just about physical protection. Her conviction that women also needed emotional protection led to her involvement with the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults against Women, the oldest rape-crisis center in the nation.
