Career

He missed one race because he turned off his mobile phone – he was a fourth alternate for that race and neither he nor the German team manager thought he would be selected. The Olympic organizers tried to call him after a skater withdrew one hour before the race, and they failed to reach the three other alternates.

Achievements

• One of his sisters, Stephanie, won three medals at the 2010 Games.
