Patrick Segal graduated from physical therapy school in 1972.
In the 1980s Patrick Segal worked in Paris as a freelance photojournalist, consultant reporter for television Channel 2: A2, and reporter for Radio 7. In 1976 he was a photojournalist for Sipa Press in Paris. Patrick Segal made the film Ama Dablang in 1979.
Patrick Segal devoted himself to the protection of persons with disabilities through his works (books, films) and humanitarian and political actions (Doctors of the World or Handicap International, he was vice-president) His photojournalism has covered such things as the Vietnam War (1974), the war in Lebanon (1976-1977), the Eritrean War and the Montreal Olympics of 1976.
