Delegate at large Democratic National Convention, Baltimore, 1912, and seconded nomination of Woodrow Wilson for President. Rendered opinion dissolving injunction in Michigan copper strike, 1913. Settled in Detroit, 1922.

As chief counsel of America Civil Liberties Union, Detroit branch, filed bill in Federal Court, attacking constitutionality of, and invalidating, Michigan Alien Registration Bill. Candidate for government of Michigan at Democratic primaries, 1932, defeated for the nomination.
