Career
During that time he also lined out with the senior hurling team He failed to claim any major honours at senior level during his brief career. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion.
At club level Butler played for the Drom-Inch club
In retirement from playing Butler became involved in coaching. He has served as manager of the Tipperary minor hurling team as well as the Laois senior hurling team
He is a former National Director of Hurling.
