Career
After working on the family farm and helping the Principal Chief of Berea as a clerk from 1943 to 1944, he went to work in the Transvaal, South Africa. Nine months later he returned home to work as clerk in the Berea court and in March 1948 was promoted to senior clerk at Mamathe appeal court. In February 1949 he became a tax collector.
After taking part in the independence negotiations in London he was appointed Minister of Local Government, Community Development and Chieftainship Affairs in the government formed by Chief Jonathan in May 1966. He became Minister of Agriculture in July 1967 and was promoted to Minister of the Interior in February 1970. His close association with Chief Jonathan led to his appointment as Minister to the Prime Minister in July 1972.
Politics
He was initiated into chieftainship power and politics in 1960. During the absence of Chief Leshoboro in Maseru he became acting Principal Chief of Maqhaka.In the district elections he was elected to Berea District Council. Two years later he joined the Basutoland National Party, became a member of the executive committee in 1963 and chairman of the Berea branch in 1964. He won a seat in Parliament in 1965.
