Paul Richards studied art at Saint Martin's School of Art (currently Central Saint Martins) and the Kent Institute of Art & Design, Maidstone, Kent (currently the University for the Creative Arts).
Paul Richards emerged to the art scene in the 1970s. He received the first acclaim for the performance-based art he produced in collaboration with a sculptor and performance artist Bruce McLean.
One of the first solo shows of Richards took place at Robert Self Gallery, London, in 1967. Since then, he has regularly exhibited around the country, including Tate Gallery and Henry Moore Institute among other art venues.
Nowadays, Paul Richards serves part-time as a lecturer at the Slade School of Fine Art. His art in London is represented by Connaught Brown Gallery.
