In 1994 Paul Snyder completed a correspondence course for writers.
In 1995 Paul A. Snyder signed a contract for his first book with only the second publisher to read it. Courageous Journey was published in 2000. In his writing, Paul tries to give the lead characters a strong set of moral values. He has always enjoyed history and adventure, so it has been natural for him to combine these in novels for young adults.
Writers who have inspired Paul Snyder greatly include Wilson Rawls in Where the Red Fern Grows and Summer of the Monkeys, Charles Portis in True Grit, Jean Craighead George in My Side of the Mountain, almost anything written by James Michener or Mark Twain, and everything written by Patrick McManus.
Paul A. Snyder married Janet K. Whitfield, an office worker, on November 5, 1964. They have two children - Robin D. and Tracy S. Snyder Keith.
