The Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. Paul Strobel was killed on 19 September 1943 over Orsha, Belarus. He was posthumously awarded the Knight"s Cross on 26 March 1944.
