Paul Woods born in Pontllanfraith, was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league football player of the 1970s and "80s, and rugby union coach, playing club level rugby union for Oakdale Reconstruction Finance Corporation, Tredegar Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and Pontypool Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and playing representative rugby league for Wales, and at club level for Widnes, Rochdale Hornets, Hull, Cardiff City Blue Dragons, and Runcorn Highfield, as a fullback, stand-off/five-eighth, or scrum-half/halfback, id est (that is) number 1, 6, or 7, and coaching club level rugby union for Tredegar Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and Margam Reconstruction Finance Corporation, he died of leukaemia in Abergavenny.
