1896-1899 studied at Law Faculty, Saint St. Petersburg University.
At his father’s house met Miklukho-Makiay, Repin, Kyui, Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Moussorgsky, Leskov, Veresayev, Nadson, Pleshcheyev, the actors Svobodin, Davydov, et cetera 1899 expelled from university for participation in student demonstrations. While still a student began stage work.
