Pavel GENKEL, USSR Plant physiologist and microbiologist. Doctor of Biological Science since 1946; Head, Salt-Tolerance Laboratory, Timiryazev Institute of Plant Physiology, USSR Academy of Science, since 1939; Professor, Moscow Oblast Pedagogical Institute, since 1947.


GENKEL, Pavel was born in 1903 in St.Petersburg.


1924 graduated Biology Department, Perm University.


1935-1946 member, All-Russia Botany Society and Moscow Naturalists’ Society. Candidate of Biological Science. 1933-1938 Chairman, Perm Naturalists’ Society.

Developed method of adapting plants to drought before sowing. Developed method of increasing the salttolerance of wheat and cotton by treating the seeds before sowing. 1945-1946 studied botanical establishments located in Soviet Zone of Germany.

1924-1925 associate, 1925-1930 Assistant, 1930-1931 lecturer, since 1931 Professor, and Head, Chair of the Physiology and Anatomy of Plants,Perm University. 1931-1933 Head, Chair of Plant Physiology and Microbiology, Ural Agriculture Institute. Was Dean, Biology Faculty, and Director, Biological Research Institute, Perm University.
