GOLUBTSOV, Pavel was born in 1906 in Sergiev settlement, now Zagorsk, Moscow Oblast.
Studied painting; after World War II graduated theol. seminary. 1951 graduated Moscow Theol.
Until World War II restorer in museums. During World War II private in Red Army. 1950 took monastic vows with name Sergiy.
Ordained priest; since 1951 instructor in church archeology and Ancient Hebrew, Moscow Theol. Academy; in charge of reception of foreign visitors to Troitse-Sergiev Monastery, Zagorsk. 1954 elevated to archimandrite.
1955 Bishop of Staraya Russa and Vicar of Leningrad Eparchy.
