Pavel Oras, USSR State security and intelligence officer.


Oras, Pavel was born in 1897 in Reval (now Tallinn).


Sailor in the Baltic fleet. Active participant in the Bolshevik take-over, 1917. Joined the Cheka. Organized Soviet espionage in Turkey, Sweden, Norway and Greece in the 1920-1930s, declared persona non grata in all of those countries.

Appointed 1st Soviet naval attache in Washington, 1934, built up a Soviet espionage net in the USA. Recalled to the Soviet Union, liquidated on Stalin’s orders.
