Military surgeon in 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War. 1914-1918 served with disinfection squad. Then head, casualty clearing station.
Head, Petrograd Military Health Board. Deputy head, Red Army Main Military Health Board. 1923 began teaching; organized course on military medical admin and military health tactics.
Ran a study circle on health tactics for Military Medical Academy students. Thus initiating the teaching of these disciplines at the Military Medical Academy. 1914 did research on establishment and equipment of hospitals and casualty transports in war time.
Studied medical service for troops during operations, in overcoming enemy defenses and during joint operations with naval and river fleet units. Also studied medical services for mechanized troops and medical service in the anti-aircraft system. This research work laid the foundation for further development of the military medical service and established his own school in this field
His handbook Sanitarnaya taktika (Sanitary Tactics) ran through four ed (1925-1931) and was the first to cover medical aid to gas casualties. Published over 30 research works.
