Entered employ of Cobb, Wight & Case, merchants, shipbuilders and owners of Bodwell Granite Company, at 17. Took charge of their oil interests in Pennsylvania at 19. Started in business at New Orleans, 1866.
President Woodward, Wight & Limited company, until November 4, 1909, when sold out to his employees.
President New Orleans Dry Dock & Ship Building Company, Southwest Louisiana Land Company, and one of receivers T.&P. Railway One of organizers Mexican, C. American and South. American Commercial Exchange, and started in New Orleans to open trade with Central and South America. One of owners and builders of the first American steamer, the “Wanderer,” running to ports there, about 1884.
Long in political life. Member Republican National Committee, 1905.
Appointed commissioner United States Internal Revenue, December, 1907, by President Roosevelt, but declined.
Member Progressive National Committee, 1912-1916. Represented both President Roosevelt and President Taft, selecting presidential appointees in Louisiana for 10 years Home: New Orleans, Louisiana.
