He is most famous for coaching Real Madrid basketball club in the 1960s and 1970s. him the Olympic Order in 1977, and he is the only basketball coach in history to receive the award. He was enshrined into the Basketball Hall of Fame in April 2007. In 2008, he was named one of the 50 Greatest Euroleague Contributors.
His combined record, while coaching Real, was 437-90.
