Mrs. Weiss was born in Denver, Colorado, United States, on August 30, 1932.
She attended Syracuse University, earning her Doctor of Philosophy in 1973.
After her graduation Mrs. Weiss went to work for the Everson Museum of Art. While serving as a guest curator at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City from 1979 till 1980, Mrs. Weiss hosted an exhibition of Kandinsky’s work entitled "Kandinsky in Munich, 1896-1914". She also wrote two books about the artist.
