Scott graduated from Lowthian College, now called the Art Institutes International, in Minneapolis, in 1983, majoring in fashion merchandising.

She was re-elected in 2010 and 2012. Scott has told reporters that her “heart broke” because the state House voted to allow same-sex marriage in the state of Minnesota.
