Peizhi Yang is a Chinese materials scientist and researcher whose work spans crystal growth, scintillation and laser materials, low-dimensional materials, renewable-energy materials, solar cells, photocatalysis, and optoelectronic devices. He is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Yunnan Normal University and directs its Ministry of Education laboratory for advanced renewable-energy materials.
Background
Peizhi Yang was born on May 20, 1966, in Dali, China. His professional career has developed across major Chinese research institutions and international scientific collaborations, progressing from materials-physics training and crystal research to leadership in renewable-energy materials and optoelectronic-device research at Yunnan Normal University.
Education
Yang studied materials physics at the University of Science and Technology of China from 1989 to 1992, completing a master's degree. He then pursued doctoral research in materials science at the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences from 1996 to 1999. His education established the foundation for subsequent work on crystal growth, functional materials, scintillators, laser materials, and energy-related materials.
Career
Yang began his research career as a postdoctoral fellow at the Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from August 1999 to November 2001. He subsequently served in the institute's Crystal Center, where he was a research-group leader from November 2001 to December 2004. During this period he also held a fellowship at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) from November 2001 to February 2003. From December 2004 to July 2008, he was a researcher and doctoral supervisor at the Kunming Institute of Physics. Since July 2008, he has worked at Yunnan Normal University, where he is a researcher, professor, doctoral supervisor, and director of the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Advanced Technique and Preparation for Renewable Energy Materials. His research has evolved from Yb-doped laser and scintillation crystals, PWO crystals, and crystal-growth technologies to low-dimensional materials, perovskites, quantum dots, dye-sensitized and all-inorganic solar cells, photocatalytic materials, energy-storage materials, and optoelectronic devices. He has also contributed to research on graphene-based and rain-responsive solar-energy technologies.
