Clarkson, Percy William was born on December 9, 1893 in San Antonio, Texas, United States. Son of William Banton and Alice Ann (Peaples) Clarkson.

1 son, William Kent. Commissioned Second lieutenant, 1916, advanced to major general 1942. Served in 26th Infantry 1st Division, during World War I. Assistant professor of chemistry and electricity United States Military Academy, 1928-1933.

On War Department General Staff, 1940-1941. Chief staff, 36th Infantry Division (Texas National Guard), assistant div. commander, 91st Infantry Division, Camp White, Oregon, 1940-1941. Commanding general 87th Infantry Division 1942-1943.

Commanding general 33rd Infantry Division (Illinois National Guard) 1943-1945, in Hawaiian Islands, S.W. Pacific, Japan. Commanding general, X Corps, deputy chief of staff, Army Forces in Pacific, Tokyo, Japan.
