While running for reelection in 1972, President Richard Nixon and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover were worried. Through informants, they learned that anti-Vietnam War activists were planning to lure several hundred thousand people to San Diego to violently disrupt the Republican National Convention. In order to do this, however, the radicals needed an attraction: fellow activist, and rock star, John Lennon. When the Nixon Justice Department learned of their plans they decided to put a stop to it by revoking Lennon's visa in an effort to deport him. Lennon and wife Yoko Ono fought back through the courts, while the government went as far as to illegally tap their phones and follow their every move, in an effort to harass them out of the country. Lennon's battle with the U.S. Government to remain in America lasted four years. Gimme Some Truth is the most comprehensive account yet of this epic moment in the life of John Lennon, complete with newly-released, never-before seen FBI information from the files of former Attorney General John Mitchell, radical activist Jerry Rubin, as well as John Lennon himself. An important historical work, Gimme Some Truth examines not only the political life of John Lennon, but also adds to the continuing saga of the controversial activities of the presidency of Richard Nixon.
