Sister of Queen Alexandra of England (wife of Edward VII). Married the Tsarevich Alexander, later Alexander III. Mother of Nicholas II. Retained influence on her son when he inherited the throne. On bad terms with the wife of Nicholas II, Alexandra, which added to the difficulties that the last Tsar had to contend with.
During the revolution, in the Crimea. Saved by British warships. Refused to believe in the execution of her son and his family until her death.
Returned to Denmark to her relatives.
