Graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School. Pupil of E. P. Gerdt and M. M. Leont’eva.
Joined the Bolshoi Theatre, 1943. Has since become an international star. Her characteristics are a wide step, high easy leap, expressive hands, great musicality, and a harmony between dynamism, tragic power and plasticity.
Among her most distinguished roles are The Dying Swan (Saint-Saens), and Anna Karenina (composed by her husband, Shchedrin). Has appeared in films and in guest performances abroad. Anna Pavlova Prize, 1962.
