Elected 54th to 59th Congresses (1895-1907), 1st Indiana District. Resigned from 59th Congress, 1905, before taking seat. Elected United States senator, January 18, 1905, for unexpired term (1905-1909) of Charles Warren Fairbanks, elected V.P. of the United States.
