Began practice at Cumberland, Maryland., August, 1871. State's attorney, 1876-1880. Appointed, May 1, 1893, by Governor Brown, and elected November 1893, for term of 15 years, 1893-1908, chief judge, 4th Judicial Circuit Maryland, and exofficio associate judge, Court of Appeals Maryland.
Served, 1908-1909, under appointment of governor.
Designated as chief judge, Court of Appeals, by Governor Warfield, November 12, 1907, and by Governor Crothers, 1908. Reëlected, 1909, for 15 years and again designated as chief judge of the Court of Appeals.
