( “Once you start looking for the happy things, you don’t...)
“Once you start looking for the happy things, you don’t think about the bad ones as much.” That’s the joyful way Pollyanna sees the world: no matter what happens, she plays her “Just Be Glad” game and finds the sunny side of any situation. But when she’s orphaned and forced to live with her rigid Aunt Polly, will high-spirited Pollyanna succeed in melting her Aunt’s cold heart?

(8 Audio CD's - 8 Hours and 48 Minutes. Now cured from her...)
8 Audio CD's - 8 Hours and 48 Minutes. Now cured from her spinal injury, Pollyanna shares the "Glad Game" with new friends in Boston. It seems she may not be able to touch the heart of one new friend, however. The bitter and depressed Mrs. Ruth Carew, who Pollyanna goes to live with for the winter while her Aunt Polly and Dr. Chilton travel to Europe, seems beyond the charms of Pollyanna's ways. Will Pollyanna be able to reach her, and bring back joy to Ruth's heart? There are other new friends in Boston, as well: Della the nurse, Sadie, and the crippled orphan Jamie. As always, our heroine has a knack for touching hearts and making friends. But, growing up brings sorrows as well as joys. Pollyanna must face hard times when she returns home to her Aunt Polly; Dr. Chilton, her uncle, has died and Aunt Polly struggles with the burden of trying to make ends meet. Even Pollyanna seems to have a hard time maintaining her usual cheerful outlook. As there is with most growing up stories, this tale includes romance. Our CDs are packaged in premium DVD cases with CD labeling printed right on the CD in full color. We do not use paper stick-on labels, these tend to peel off over time and can really jam up car CD players and computers. We chose to use DVD cases for our CD sets, as we have found they hold up better in shipping and in regular usage than the typical CD jewel case. Please note: All recordings we offer on CD are produced with recordings from Librivox, public domain works recorded by volunteers. We at St. Clare Audio would like to thank the volunteers for their gift of offering their work to the public domain. Also, being public domain works they are available for download at Librivox. St. Clare Audio's niche is providing them in ready-to-purchase CD sets, for those who cannot download, or have not the desire or time to do so, as well as the benefit of a nice case and professionally produced CDs. Pollyanna Grows Up is read by Mary Anderson.

It is the first of many sequels to Porter's best-selling Pollyanna (1913), but is the only one written by Porter herself; the numerous later additions to the Pollyanna franchise were the work of other authors. Pollyanna, now cured of her crippling spinal injury, spends her time teaching the "glad game" to new town, and a very bitter woman, Mrs. Carew. Along the way she makes new friends, such as Sadie and Jamie: Jamie is a delicate literary genius whose withered legs compel him to rely on a wheelchair and crutches. Six years later, Pollyanna and her aunt fall upon hard times. Following the death of Dr. Chilton, as a means of making money, Pollyanna and her aunt are forced to take in the friends Pollyanna made six years earlier as boarders. However, there are many skeletons lurking in people's closets, causing numerous misunderstandings and many revelations, including how old childhood friend Jimmy 'Bean' Pendleton ended up alone.

"Nothing; only I just said that I believed John Pendleton would have something to say about Pollyanna's loving anybody—but him." "POLLYANNA! JOHN PENDLETON!" Mrs. Carew sat down suddenly in the chair nearest her. If the two men before her had not been so deeply absorbed in their own affairs they might have noticed that the smile had vanished from Mrs. Carew's lips, and that an odd look as of almost fear had come to her eyes. "Certainly," maintained Jamie. "Were you both blind last summer? Wasn't he with her a lot?" "Why, I thought he was with—all of us," murmured Mrs. Carew, a little faintly. "Not as he was with Pollyanna," insisted Jamie. "Besides, have you forgotten that day when we were talking about John Pendleton's marrying, and Pollyanna blushed and stammered and said finally that he HAD thought of marrying—once. Well, I wondered then if there wasn't SOMETHING between them. Don't you remember?" "Y-yes, I think I do—now that you speak of it," murmured Mrs. Carew again. "But I had—forgotten it." "Oh, but I can explain that," cut in Jimmy, wetting his dry lips. "John Pendleton DID have a love affair once, but it was with Pollyanna's mother."

Cross Currents CHAPTER I THE lo Dgtrain from the North rolled into the Grand Central Station and came to a jerky stop, while out the doors and down the steps surged a hurrying throng of men and women who seemed intent on reaching a given point in the shortest possible time. Back in the luxuriously appointed drawing-room car there was not so much haste, though even there silk-lined skirts rustled softly, and carefully creased trousers subnutted themselves more or less graciously to the porters whisk-broom. At the far end of the car a tall, r-haired woman in dark blue, and a litde girl five years old sat by themselves. (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.) A BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of the classic American tale, starring Gayle Hunnicutt. When Pollyanna's father dies, she is sent to live with her only surviving relative, the rich but stern Aunt Polly. Pollyanna's joy soon turns to disappointment when her spinster aunt gives her a cold greeting and tells her she is to stay in the attic. It's not the welcome Pollyanna expected, but she soon regains her spirits, playing the ‘glad game’ her father taught her. Nancy, the maid, is charmed by Pollyanna and soon the girl's infectious optimism wins the hearts of everyone in town from the reclusive Mr Pendleton to the shy Dr Chilton. Everyone, that is, except Aunt Polly, who refuses to succumb to her young niece's charm. It is not until a tragic accident occurs, which leaves even Pollyanna struggling to find a way to feel glad, that her maiden aunt finally unwraps her heart from years of bitterness. This BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation retains the spirit of childlike innocence and optimism that has made Pollyanna a favourite amongst generations of children and adults.

Pollyanna is a best-selling novel by Eleanor H. Porter that is now considered a classic of children's literature. The book was such a success that Porter soon produced a sequel, Pollyanna Grows Up (ISBN 9781439297513 ). The novel's success brought the term "Pollyanna" (along with the adjective "pollyannaish" and the noun "Pollyannaism") into the language to describe someone who seems always to be able to find something to be "glad" about no matter what circumstances arise.

( One of the all-time classics of children's literature, ...)
One of the all-time classics of children's literature, a feel-good book full of enthusiasm and exuberance, and a perfect family read "There is something about everything that you can be glad about, if you keep hunting long enough to find it." When Pollyanna Whittier's father dies she is sent to live with her Aunt Polly in Vermont. A clash of personalities ensues as Pollyanna's sunny disposition sits ill with her aunt's need for quiet, her passion for shutting windows, and her obsession with quietly shut doors. The key to Pollyanna's happiness is The Glad Game—originally invented to deal with disappointing missionary boxes—and is applied to all parts of life. No matter how dark the situation, it is always possible to find something to be glad about. Any attempts to discipline the child fail helplessly in the face of The Glad Game. A bread and milk supper in the kitchen is greeted with rapture; a puritan attic bedroom with sparse furnishing is valued for its rapturous views. As Pollyanna becomes acquainted with other inhabitants of the town, the cantankerous residents fall victim to her charms. However, the arrival of a motor car in town heralds a tragic change which not even Pollyanna looks likely to be able to overcome. This timeless classic has spawned many spin-off novels and films.

(Can beauty survive life's harshest realities? A mystery ...)
Can beauty survive life's harshest realities? A mystery unfolds in this contemporary retelling of Eleanor Porter's beloved literary classic JUST DAVID, the tale of ten-year-old David, a luminously gifted musician. Why would David's father, a virtuoso violinist, have raised his prodigy son in seclusion on a mountaintop? Long-hidden secrets unravel when the father dies en route to introduce his guileless son to the people of the valley below. Radiantly naïve, David enters a small town orphaned and alone, knowing only his first name and nothing of his heritage. All David knows is what his father has taught him--only what is beautiful and good, and nothing of the evils of the world he is about to encounter. Through a final letter, David's father leaves his son with a challenge. David must discover his purpose: the beautiful work he is meant to do in the world. With his violin eager to express what words cannot, David joyously searches out his true calling. The boy's unsettlingly wondrous view of the world makes him a problem child to those more consumed with practical, modern living. His startling oddity fuels the town's drive to solve the puzzle of his presence there and arrange for placement elsewhere. All the while, curiosity leads David to question those he meets about what work they do to make the world a better place. Workaholic farmer Simeon Holly begrudgingly houses David at the insistence of his desperately lonely wife, Ellen. Single mother Tina Glaspell barely makes ends meet, toiling as a housekeeper. Former lawyer, Jack Gurnsey has abandoned his career in the city to rear his much younger sister. Jack's childhood sweetheart, heiress Barbara Holbrook, has everything but purpose in her life, let alone love. As Jack probes the enigma of who David is, the secrets of David's secluded upbringing come to light. But relationships, lives, and livelihoods hang in the balance. Will the world's harsh realities threaten David's luminous spirit? Or could this boy have a life-changing impact on everyone he meets? Susan Rohrer's "REDEEMING" novels are part of an anthology series, a collection of clean, inspirational stories based on Susan Rohrer's screenplays. With its touches of allegorical character drama, mystery, adventure, and romance, The Beautiful World is a mashup, a contemporary adaptation of Eleanor H. Porter's classic novel, Just David, introducing this time-honored tale to a new generation of readers. Young and old alike will be inspired by David's quest to find purpose, beauty, and joy in everyday living. Click above to order your copy of The Beautiful World today!

In this sequel to the children's classic Pollyanna, our beloved heroine continues to cheer up everyone around her with her sunny personality and relentless good humor When we left Pollyanna at the end of the first book, she was trying very hard to stay positive after a car accident injured her spine and paralyzed her. Now old fans and new will be intrigued to read about Pollyanna’s miraculous recovery: she can walk—something she was assured she would never be able to do again! Now that Pollyanna’s aunt has married kind old Dr. Chilton, the newlyweds whisk Pollyanna off to Europe every winter and all three start to enjoy their newfound family. Pollyanna also has the chance to travel to Boston, and makes plenty of new friends as well as reuniting with her oldest pals. As Pollyanna grows up, she matures into a thoughtful young lady but never loses her characteristic spark of good cheer. Her goal in life is still to be glad under all circumstances, but with her aunt experiencing a tragedy and Pollyanna herself getting embroiled in a complicated love triangle, it will take a special type of person to come through it all with a smile on her face. Luckily Pollyanna is a very special young lady indeed.

(Pollyanna Grows Up is a 1915 children's novel by Eleanor ...)
Pollyanna Grows Up is a 1915 children's novel by Eleanor H. Porter. It is the first of many sequels to Porter's best-selling Pollyanna.

(Pollyanna is a best-selling 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Port...)
Pollyanna is a best-selling 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter that is now considered a classic of children's literature, with the title character's name becoming a popular term for someone with the same very optimistic outlook.1 Also, the subconscious bias towards the positive is often described as the Pollyanna principle. The book was such a success that Porter soon produced a sequel, Pollyanna Grows Up (1915). Eleven more Pollyanna sequels, known as "Glad Books", were later published, most of them written by Elizabeth Borton or Harriet Lummis Smith. Further sequels followed, including Pollyanna Plays the Game by Colleen L. Reece, published in 1997. Pollyanna has been adapted for film several times. Some of the best known are Disney's 1960 version starring child actress Hayley Mills, who won a special Oscar for the role, and the 1920 version starring Mary Pickford.
